Fun Weekend: Storytelling, Painting, and Playing Together!

The Sunday on the 6th of October, 2024, at the pendhapa (pavillion) of the village chief’s house in Gedongan, Bangunjiwo subdistrict, felt special. At this humble pendhapa surrounded by lush trees, children gathered in a warm ambience that was filled with laughter. Not only did they come to play, but they also gathered around to listen to stories and make crafts. Miss Atha, a volunteer of Kolong Tangga Museum, opened the storytelling session with a story entitled “Who Am I?” – a story that encouraged children to get to know themselves in a fun way. Through amusing characters and conversational-syle dialogues, children were prompted to ask and think about: what kind of person am I? what is it that I like? what is it that makes me unique? Following the storytelling, the children were invited to paint canvas tote-bags. They drew self-portrait on the bag in their own way. A meaningful weekend does not always mean a luxury one away – rather, it is one spent sitting together, listening to stories, and playing under the friendly sky.
